MW Insulation is delighted to announce that its Supaphen high performance phenolic thermal pipe insulation product has been assessed and now has a BRE Global verified Environmental Product Declaration (EPD).
The “Statement of Verification” certificate in accordance with the requirements of
EN 15804:2012+A1:2013 and BRE Global Scheme Document SD207 is now available to download from the BRE Globals Greenbooklive website OR on our Supaphen web page HERE.
Mike Whelan, co-founder and managing director of MW Insulation, said: “A BRE Global verified Environmental Product Declaration will assist specifiers and users to achieve higher levels of credits relating to the environmental performance of buildings in which our Supaphen product is used. BRE Global is internationally recognised and to have our Supaphen product listed with a verified EPD following BRE’s rigorous evaluation process is an achievement we are proud of. This industry recognised mark of quality highlights again our commitment to environmental compliance.”
Dr Shamir Ghumra, BREEAM Director said: “It’s great to see MW Insulation joining the growing number of leading companies taking account of their environmental impacts. This BRE verified EPD will give their customers and specifiers more confidence in choosing the right products for their projects. At a time when climate change and other environmental issues are becoming more pressing, it is important that all organisations take responsibility for their own impacts. MW Insulation are contributing to a world of verified product data which is to be commended.”
MWI has completed this process to be ready for the introduction of the new BREEAM scheme and the increase in focus on whole building Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) Environmental Profiles which are likely to ultimately supersede the Green Guide to Specification.
What is an EPD (Environmental Product Declaration)?
By collecting a range of data such as raw materials, packaging, transport and energy, BRE were able to then calculate the environmental impact of MW Insulation’s Supaphen phenolic foam product from cradle to gate. This information is then published in an EPD. This EPD is then used by specifiers which include architects, engineers, designers, building control personnel; for the Mat 01 ‘Building Life Cycle Assessment’ credit of BREEAM 2018 and would be used as evidence to contribute to the Mat 02 EPD credit.
