Mike Whelan, Founder and Managing Director of MW Insulation Ltd Retires!
It is with mixed emotions that we announce the retirement of our founder and former Managing Director, Mike Whelan, from MW Insulation Ltd. After a career spanning 46 years in the technical insulation industry, Mike has decided to step down from his role at MW. For the past 13 years, Mike and the team have been dedicated to establishing MW Insulation as a leader in the industry.
Mike, and his father John Whelan before him, are considered rigid foam insulation industry pioneers, and Mike is renowned for his technical knowledge of rigid phenolic foam. His leadership and commitment to excellence have been instrumental in shaping MW Insulation into the success it is today. He and the team at MW have constantly focussed on quality, service, and compliance, which will continue following his departure.
While we bid farewell to Mike on the day-to-day running of the business, we are delighted that he has agreed to remain as a consultant/advisor on technical issues, especially compliance. Steve Renney, who acquired the business two years ago under his IBSL Group business portfolio, will continue to lead MW Insulation as Managing Director. Steve’s commitment to upholding the values of quality and excellence mirrors those started by Mike, and under Steve’s leadership, MW continues to flourish.

Mike Whelan himself shares his reflections on his career: "I have really enjoyed all my years and roles in this industry which have taken me all over the world, and I have developed some long-term friendships and gained a huge amount of experience and knowledge. In particular, the last 13 years have been very special. Establishing MW Insulation and developing the business to what it is today has been a journey I am extremely proud of and what we have achieved. I must acknowledge the contribution of the individuals who have been with me from the start. We have worked hard together and overcome some challenges along the way. We have had some fun, a lot of success, and I will miss the interaction and banter. MW Insulation is in great shape and more importantly, in great hands. Steve Renney and the team have every aspect of the business covered with exciting plans for the future of MW and the IBSL Group."
